Welcome to the BSA Troop 148 website. I have made several cosmetic changes to the site recently, and while I think I haven't broken any of the links, you never know. So, if you run across anything that is either wrong, out of date, or broken, let me know.
You may be asking, "Why did he change the web site around?" Well, there were a number of reasons. Chief among them was the fact that it was becoming more difficult to maintain the site using the site maintenance program I was using, and as I was having to do a bunch of work to convert everything to the new program, I thought I would give the site a facelift. The new program makes site maintenance a lot easier, and with any luck will permit me to do updates from pretty well anywhere I happen to be, using very simple tools (try "Notepad" or "vi" as the text editor.) The new site maintenance program also makes it very easy to separate the "content" of the site from the "look & feel", which means I can take write-ups from others and format them for the site very quickly. In addition, it will be much easier to make changes that effect all of the pages on the site.
There are a few changes in the organization of the site. I have added an "events" page where I will be posting upcoming troop events with details. The "NEWS FLASHES" (formerly "hot news") will remain on this page, but will be abbreviated, the idea being that these are quick "eye-catchers". Also, due to the fact that spammers are still grabbing email addresses off of web sites, I have (I think) removed everyone's personal and work email addresses from the web pages. If you particularly want your email address posted on the site, drop me a line. I would recommend that if you do, you obtain a spam-blocking email address, such as those offered by despammed.com. This service will filter out the spam, and forward the rest of the email to an account you specify.
One word to all of you out there. I appreciate the help I have received in the way of updated info, corrections etc. It seems that several of our recent visitors have commented on the site. What this tells me is that a site with accurate up-to-date info is a benefit to the troop. So, I will continue to need your support in the new year, to keep things accurate, and to add new pictures and reports that some of you have asked for.

One Final Update to These Pages
Jun 18, 2004
After a significant amount of work, testing, and hair-tearing, it appears that the 'new, improved' web site is ready to unleash upon our public. To reduce the chance of errors or omissions caused by having to maintain content in two different places, I have chosen to 'freeze' the content on this site, as of today (June 18.) All new announcements, news, and content will be posted EXCLUSIVELY on the new site, which you can reach now at the following URL: http://new.bsatroop148.org.
However, don't update your bookmarks just yet -- the 'new' site will be moved over and will replace the current site Real Soon Now.

Note: Will need spending money so include any costs for crafts, any shells for shooting sports, merit badge books, etc.. Transportation money will be collected when we get final cost.
Leave from Church on June 26. Load trailer at 8:00-8:30. Leave at 9:00. Take spending money or lunch for Saturday (2 meals) and Sunday (2 meals). Spend night at Camp Preston Hunt, Texarkana ($4/person -- will stay in cabins w/bunks so need sleeping bags or bedding in a day pack or in front of trailer for easy retreival). Arrive Camp Pioneer for check in between 12-2. At Camp Pioneer, all troop sites have wall tents, cots and mattress set up and ready for the use of Scouts and leaders. Each site is equipped with showers, restrooms, a storage building for equipment and a large shelter for troop meetings.
Incoming mail will be given to adult leaders at mealtime or other convenient time. Outgoing mail should be deposited in the mailbox by the Scoutmasters' Shack. Encourage Scouts to write home often. It is good for both Scouts and parents. The address at camp is:

New Web Site Available For Review / Testing

I have just finished the prototype of the new BSA Troop148 web site. I would appreciate all Troop members taking a look, and sending me your feedback. The site can be found at http://new.bsatroop148.org/index.php. Note: for now, please don't forget to include the "index.php" in the URL, as there is a bug still I need to find and squash.
Starting now, I will be posting all updates to both sites. Once I get all the bugs shaken out, and things organized and moved over, the new site will become The site for Troop 148.

Site has been Moved!
Apr 21, 2004
Earlier this
week, the web site for BSA Troop 148 was moved to a new server. This will
provide us additional capabilities (for example, expanded mailing list
options), and is the foundation for the revamping of the web site to a new
Content Management System. Stay tuned, I promise things are going to
be hopping this year!
